Institutional Strengthening and Formalization of Artisanal and Small-Scale Miners (ISP)

This project seeks to strengthen the capacity of Ziva Community Initiative to support the formalization of artisanal and small-scale miners (ASMs) and promote climate-resilient livelihoods in mining-affected communities across Plateau State, Nigeria.

The initiative addresses the interconnected challenges of informal mining, climate change, agricultural sustainability, and energy transition by empowering miners, farmers, women, and youth with the tools, knowledge, and support needed to thrive.

Through institutional capacity building, cooperative formalization, stakeholder engagement, skills development, and advocacy, the project promotes responsible mining practices, climate-smart agriculture, and inclusive community participation. Special emphasis is placed on amplifying the voices of women in mining and strengthening local governance systems to ensure sustainable resource management.

By fostering partnerships with government agencies, community groups, and development partners, the project aims to create lasting improvements in livelihoods, environmental stewardship, and the formalization of Nigeria’s artisanal mining sector.
